The Apple

I was sitting there
free of all care;
There was an apple,
there was a mirror.

Then you were near,
my lovely dear!
And now we were two
and there was just one-
one apple to eat;
it was a big one.

You gave it to me
and I the mirror
who was there to see.

She was kind enough
and repeated it.
And now we are two
and apples are too.
